Project Timeline: Countdown to Expo!
August 3rd, 2012: Learning, Design and Technology Expo at Stanford. Hip Hip Array makes its debut!
July 2012: Learning study and digital prototyping.
June 2012: IRB approval and development of digital prototype.
June 1, 2012: IRB application submitted. Phew!
May 31, 2012: Quick pitches and feedback from Dr. Dan Schwartz, Dr. Brigid Barron and Molly Wilson.
May 22, 23, 24, 30: Paper prototyping and pilot testing of learning study with 16 local elementary school students!
May 16, 2012: Met with programmer extraordinaire, Rachel Sanders, and co-collaborator, Michelle Friend, to review digital prototype of the Memory Game and discuss next steps for the Grid Game.
May 6, 2012: Prototyped with 2nd grade student.
April 29, 2012: Prototyped with 1st grade student.
April 24, 2012: Met with Rachel Sanders for the first time. She agreed to partner with me on the project to help me program the games. Hip Hip ARRAY!!
April 20, 2012: Prototyped with classmates Jen Bundy, Heidi Williamson, Katie McFeely, and Paul Williams Jr. to define and refine rules for the Grid Game.
April 12, 2012: Submitted Master's Project Proposal for Hip Hip Array!
March 15, 2012: Presented project and games in Child Development and New Technologies class with Paul Williams Jr. and Michael Duong.
February 28, 2012: Paper prototypes with students at local elementary.
February 2012: Teamed up with Michael Duong and Paul Williams Jr. to develop multiplication games for 3rd grade students as part of our Child Development and New Technologies class.
January 31, 2012: Met with Dr. Dan Schwartz to discuss possible ideas for a Master's project (none of which had anything to do
with multiplication). Found myself randomly ranting about kids not knowing their multiplication tables.
As I was walking out of the meeting Dr. Schwartz said something to the effect of “you really should do something about that multiplication table issue”. The seed had been planted…
